Every Monday, MySmartMedia tracks last week’s startup funding rounds and what they mean for the people who build, run and grow businesses. From October 12 to 18, 2026, we tracked 22 Seed through Series C rounds worth about $878.7M.
New funding means new opportunities. It’s time to follow the money.
The week in numbers
- 22 featured rounds, totaling about $878.7M
- Median round: $27.5M
- Stage mix: 3 Seed, 9 Series A, 1 Seed + A combined, 5 Series B, 3 Series C, 1 undisclosed
- Where the dollars went: healthcare ($422M) took about 48% of the total
- Where the deals went: healthcare also led by count, with 7 rounds
Headline deal (outside our seed-to-Series C range): Modal Labs, which runs cloud infrastructure for AI workloads, raised a $750M Series D at a $15.75B valuation, led by Accel (Crunchbase News). Ramp also confirmed the $1.85B round we flagged as reported last week, led by Dragoneer at a $60B valuation (Tech Startups).
5 deals to know
- Soufflé Therapeutics, $135M Series B (Juvia Group). The largest featured round of the week. Biotech is drawing big checks again, and RNA medicines are a big part of why.
- Abby Care, $82M Series C (Transformation Capital). Trains family members to become certified, paid caregivers. Home care has a labor shortage, and this tackles the supply side.
- Mueon, $65M Series A (Maverick Silicon). A large Series A for computing hardware, from Portland. AI’s hunger for compute is now funding chip-level startups well outside Silicon Valley.
- Reach Security and Harmonic Security, $50M Series B each (Top Tier Capital Partners; Crosspoint Capital Partners). One checks whether existing security tools actually work. The other controls how employees use AI. Both are about keeping AI adoption safe.
- North.cloud, $60M Series B (PeakSpan Capital). Tracks and cuts cloud, AI and data spending. As AI bills grow, finance teams want someone watching the meter.
What it means for you
- Starting & Building: Series A was the busiest stage, with 9 rounds. Many went to narrow, unglamorous problems: senior living billing (Sunbound), healthcare compliance (Readily), rental home investing (Mogul). Specific and already paid for beats broad and exciting.
- Running It Solo: Seed and Series A teams like Othello, Clueso, Trace and Chariot Claims are small and moving fast. Teams this size often bring in freelance help for content, design and sales ops before they hire full time.
- Leading & Scaling: Three security and infrastructure rounds totaling $160M say the same thing: AI is now a governance and cost question. Expect your board to ask who controls AI use, and who watches AI spend.
- Driving Revenue: Healthcare raised $422M across 7 rounds. Freshly funded teams like these tend to buy compliance, billing, data and recruiting help. Fintech (4 rounds) and data infrastructure are next. Reach out while the money is new and the plans are still being written.
